Abstract

The research aims to determine library activities that occur in the animated film Upin & Ipin "I'm a Book". In this film, the characters who play a role in library activities are Upin & Ipin, Jarjit, Ma'il, Ehsan, Fizi, Mei-Mei, Susanti, Kak Ros, Opah, Tok dalang, and Abang Salleh. This research is a type of qualitative research using the semiotic method which refers to Roland Barthes' theory with a two-stage meaning of connotation-denotation. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation, literature study, and documentation. The source of this research uses primary data in the form of the animated film Upin & Ipin "I'm a Book", while secondary data uses data from literature related to research. In this study, the results showed that the library activities contained in the animated film Upin & Ipin "I'm a Book" include: 1) library technical services which include collection procurement, collection processing, collection maintenance due to bibliocrime, and collection weeding. 2) Public library services include: library opening and closing hours, circulation services which include borrowing collections and returning collections, reference services by providing information to users.
