Abstract
Infographics, which are commonly found in da'wah content on Instagram, have become an increasingly popular means of conveying Islamic messages in the digital era. One government-owned account actively sharing da'wah content in infographic form is @penais.kemenag. This account features various visually based da'wah content that is informative, educational, and religious in nature, all presented through infographics. As a representation of the government's digital da'wah efforts, the @penais.kemenag account bears the responsibility of delivering accurate, credible, and well-received Islamic information to the public. This study is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach that examines the elements of visual communication design and Gestalt theory, also the meaning of da'wah messages in three infographic posts from the @penais.kemenag Instagram account during the month of Ramadan 1446 Hijri. The theories used in this study are Gestalt theory and the visual communication design of infographics. The qualitative data analysis was conducted using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis technique. The results of this study indicate that the three infographic designs on the @penais.kemenag account consist of a header, content, and footer. The header section contains logos and typography designed using elements of color and shape, reflecting the values of the infographic designer. The placement of logos using the principle of proximity represents the institutional structure of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and its affiliated bodies: Islamic Community Guidance (Bimas Islam), Directorate of Islamic Information (Penais), and Pusaka. The content section includes icons, indices, and symbols that represent da'wah messages on Islamic creed (faith), such as the divine scriptures and the Qur’an; messages on Islamic law, such as the takbir, eating before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, and the Eid prayer itself; and messages on Islamic ethics, such as adorning oneself, visiting public places, maintaining ties of kinship (silaturahmi), and offering greetings. These visual elements are arranged using the principles of visual communication design and are in accordance with Gestalt theory, making the infographics closely aligned with Islamic culture and easily readable and understandable by the audience—especially modern Muslims in Indonesia. The footer section contains shapes, logos, and typography designed with elements of form and color representing Penais’s social media account. The principles of proximity, similarity, and figure-ground are applied to highlight the identity of Penais's social media presence.
