Abstract

The news about the abolition of national examinations by the Ministry of Education and Culture at the end of 2019 become public consumption and was phenomenal. This has drawn responses from various circles. Detik.com and Tempo.co as one of the online media are not spared provided information to the public and describing the incident with different perspectives and interests in reported. The focus of this research is to find out the construction of news coverage on online media Detik.com and Tempo.co related to reporting the elimination of the national exam in the period 28 November - 17 December 2019. The media as the delivery of information and events has a function to construct the events to be conveyed. The media as a place where groups with an interest in reality compete with each other for support from the public by forming public opinion through the media. The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive with the method of framing analysis by Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki which consists of; syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical structures. The theory used in this research is media ideology and media reality. From the results of research, framing conducted by Detik.com is more supportive and agreed on the policy of eliminating the national exam. Detik.com shows its support for the government. While the framing shown by Tempo.co is more against the elimination of the national exam and emphasizes the government to mature again and not to rush in deciding to delete the national exam.
