Abstract

This study aims to determine children's literature collections and determine the role of children's literature in the development of cognitive abilities and affective abilities of children in group B of Al-Azhar 52 Brebes Islamic Kindergarten. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data collection method used in this study used interview techniques, observation techniques, and documentation techniques. Cognitive abilities in this study, there are sensory-motor stages and preoperational stages that arise in students in school. Environmental factors, formation, interest and aptitude for cognitive abilities also arise in students in schools. The data analysis used in this study was by Miles and Huberman, with the results of the analysis of this study, namely 4 components consisting of 14 subcomponents, 78.57% which are suitable and 21.43% which are not in accordance with the role of children's literature. The sub-components in accordance with children's literature theory include: information level, recreation level, fiction, nonfiction, emotional development, social sense development, imagination development, intellectual development, language development, cultivation of reading habits, and exploration and discovery. And the unsuitable sub-components consist of age groups, educational level of education, and development of multicultural insights. With the results of descriptions of cognitive abilities and affective abilities and percentage results, it can be said that the role of literature in the development of cognitive abilities and affective abilities in group B of AlAzhar 52 Brebes Islamic Kindergarten is largely in accordance with the theory.
