Abstract

This study aims to determine the strategy for the development of school library services in the SMA N 1 Pleret Library. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. Methods of data collection using direct observation, semi-structured interviews and documentation. The technique of determining informants uses purposive sampling. The data analysis technique in this study used Miles and Huberman's theory, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Test the validity of the data in this study using a credibility test which includes extension of observations, triangulation, and member check. The expected results in this study are to provide a description of the strategy for developing school library services in the SMA N 1 Pleret Library. In addition, it can provide an explanation regarding SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Treats) or the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that exist in the library service. The results of this study indicate that the strategy for the development of school library services in the Pleret SMA N 1 Library is influenced by two factors, namely: external and internal environmental factors. Internal and external environmental factors generate exposure of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT analysis). The results of the analysis of SO (Strengths-Opportunities) are: Strengthening cooperation with the community, optimizing services to visitors and optimizing community activities. The results of ST (Strengths-Threats) are: Maximizing library visiting hours, conducting social media updates as a means of library promotion and using the internet wisely. The results of the WO (Weaknesses-Opportunities) are: Proposing a survey of additional collection materials to users, recruiting library personnel who are experts in their fields and retaining existing experts. The results of the WT (Weaknesses-Threats) are: Maximizing the performance of librarians, scheduling mandatory visiting hours for visitors and limiting internet usage. From these results will be used in service development strategies in the short and long term. Suggestions / recommendations from this study: (1) Implementing the strategy as a school library service development. (2) Conduct evaluation as a reference for library service development. (3) Perform short-term and long-term plans. (4) Realizing the plans that have been planned.
