Abstract

This study aims to determine the competence of librarians, to determine student achievement, and to determine the relationship between school librarian competence and student achievement at SMP N 4 Pakem. This research is a quantitative type of research. The variables used are the independent variable (librarian competence) and the dependent variable (student achievement). Sampling by means of incidental sampling, with a sample size of 76 respondents. The data collection methods used were observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The analytical method used by descriptive data correlation analysis techniques. Data were processed using IBM SPSS version 25 for windows. The results showed avalue grand meanof 3.53, which means that the competence of school librarians was categorized as very good, and student achievement showed ascore grand meanof 90 was categorized as very good. From the correlation results, it can be seen that the correlation coefficient of the school librarian competency variable and student achievement is 0.645. Because r count> r table at a significance level of 5% (0.227), the correlation is said to be significant. From the results of the hypothesis test, it can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, which means that in this study there is a very high relationship between the competence of school librarians and student achievement at SMP N 4 Pakem. The results of this study indicate a positive and significant result between the competence of school librarians and student achievement. Referring to the results, as for the suggestions given by the author, namely librarians are expected to inform the school to maximize the library promotion media in various ways or through social media to optimize the school community in accessing the library. Librarians are also expected to make efforts to foster interest in reading, such as holding an exhibition of the latest collections.
