Abstract

This study aims to determine how the efforts to increase reading interest in students at SD N Demangan Yogyakarta. This type of research is descriptive qualitative, with a case study approach with the research subjects of principals and teachers, librarians, guardians of students, and students who carry out learning activities at home. The object of research is an effort to increase students' reading interest in SD N Demangan Yogyakrta. The data collection technique of this research is observation, interview, and documentation. The data analysis process uses data presentation and conclusion. The data validity test used the data credibility test using extended observations, triangulation, and memberchecks. The results of this study indicate that: (1) Efforts to increase students' interest in reading at SD N Demangan Yogyakarta, the efforts made by the school to give freedom for each student to read books in the library, open cooperation with institutions that want to increase literacy of school children, give students freedom to participate in literacy competitions outside of school, establish literacy hut and efforts to increase reading interest carried out by the library by organizing mandatory library visit activities, storytelling activities, watching movies, reading books for 15 minutes in the library before teaching KBM, cooperation from the library with the city library, and providing information to students about learning and student literacy through Instagram media and textbook borrowing can be borrowed at school to help learning at home. (2) What obstacles are faced in increasing students' reading interest, namely the location of the library that is less strategic for students to reach, the lack of fiction book collections, the lack of adequate facilities, and the lack of parental supervision when students are studying at home and the lack of innovative programs from librarian. Based on the research results, efforts to increase students' reading interest in SD N Demangan are still not good enough. There are suggestions that need to be done namely librarians must be more innovative in supporting learning activities as they are now so that libraries can run according to their functions, parents of students who must accompany their children in learning activities at home.
