Abstract

This study aims to determine the attitudes and behavior patterns of students in responding to hoaxes which are increasingly rampant due to the easy flow of information access and are widely available on social media so that there is no information filtering system when information is disseminated on social media. Social media is a virtual social place between individuals, to share information with each other. One of the positive impacts of social media is the easy access to information. There is also a negative impact of social media, namely the explosion of information that can cause a person's crowded thoughts. The subjects of this study were students of the Library Science study program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The Library Science study program has contributed to the development of information literacy in Indonesia. Information literacy consists of searching, analyzing and finding the information needed. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. Techniques for determining informants using purposive sampling or non-random techniques. Informants are those who fall into the category of informants determined by the researcher. There are 16 students of the Library Science study program who are included in the category of research informants. The research method was carried out by interview, observation and documentation. The results showed that the attitude of Library Science students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta when they found hoax information on social media, namely being annoyed, upset, sad, confused, curious, indifferent, feeling ordinary. And there are 3 patterns of student behavior in responding to hoaxes on social media. 1. The first pattern of behavior; a. Viewing the account / source of the post, b. Seeing the similarity of news via google, c. See the match date for news posts; 2. The second pattern of behavior; a. Looking at the picture, b. Open the image on google image, c. See search results for the same image; 3. The third pattern of behavior; a. Pay attention to the title, b. Skim reading the contents, c. See the comments column. It is hoped that the results of this study can make users more sensitive to current issues and news on social media.
