Abstract

SMAN 9 Bandar Lampung is one of the best schools in Bandar Lampung. This school not only pays attention to the quality of the students but also pays attention to the quality of its teaching staff. Therefore, various activities are carried out that can develop teacher professional competence, this is solely carried out to improve the quality of existing education. This study examines problems related to the principal's strategy in developing teacher professional competence, starting from the essence of the strategies used, the positive impact resulting from the existence of these strategies to the key factors in the successful implementation of the strategy for developing teacher professional competence at SMAN 9 Bandar Lampung. Theoretically, this research is useful to contribute ideas for the development of concepts and theories that have been put forward previously. While practically this research can be used as a development of pre-existing research which can then be applied by leaders of educational institutions in activities related to the development of teacher professional competence. The research method used in this research is qualitative research with descriptive type. The researcher analyzes the words of data/editors generated from various sources of research data. Sources of data in this study were the principal, the vice-principal in the curriculum field, the vice principal in the field of facilities and infrastructure, the head of the KKG, and several teachers at SMAN 9 Bandar Lampung. The results of this study indicate that the strategies used by the principal in developing professional competence are carried out in two forms, namely the formal form and the informal form. In the formal form, the strategy carried out is in the form of delegating teachers to participate in education and training activities, including all teachers in MGMP activities, providing opportunities for teachers to continue their education, carrying out activities related to teacher professional competence, and involving educators in seminar activities. Meanwhile, in a nonformal form, the strategy is implemented by sharing as well as motivating employees, exemplifying discipline, and conducting evaluation meetings. From the implementation of several of these strategies, there have been several positive impacts, including the increasing number of teachers who use technology in the learning process, increasing teacher creativity, and increasing scientific work produced by teachers. In addition, there are several key factors for the success of this strategy, namely good communication between school principals and teachers, teacher awareness, commitment from school principals, and the existence of a common goal.
