Abstract

This research aims to know the effectiveness of the SiMaYang model toward students multiple representation ability on optical material with three representation of physics, i.e: verbal representation, image representation, and mathematical representation. This research is a quasi experiment with pretest-posttest control group design. The variables in this study include SiMaYang learning model as the independent variable and multiple representations ability as the dependent variable. The population in this study were all 11th science class students of MA Al Ma'had An Nur Bantul in the 2018/2019 academic year. Sampling was carried out with saturated sampling technique, selected 11th science class 1 as the experimental class and class 11th science class 2 as the control class. The data collection technique used is the test technique, with the essay instrument. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistics with normalized gain (N-gain) and the effect size test. The results showed that the SiMaYang Learning Model was effective for increasing the ability of multiple representations in optical material. This increase is indicated by the N-Gain value of the experimental class of 0.75 (high) which is higher than the control class with an N-Gain of 0.62 (moderate), and the effect size test results of 1.57 (high).
