Abstract

The aim of the reseach is to find out how the implementation of School Literacy Movement at school to build students‟s interesting reading at SMP N 5 Yogyakarta. The research was descriptive qualitative research. The data collecting methods are observation, interview, and documentation. To analyze the data used Milles and Huberman‟s theory through 3 Step; data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. The validity test in this research was credibility test using triangulation and membercheck, transferability test, dependability test and conformability test. The results of this study are SMP N 5 Yogyakarta to start the School Literacy Movement program in 2017 after Government Regulation no. 23 of 2015 concerning School Literacy Movement. School Literacy Movement which is carried out at SMP N 5 Yogyakarta has reached the development stage which is reading 15 minutes before learning begins with a regular schedule on Monday and Friday accompanied by a bill reading the result of reading. The reading results will be selected and printed into books on display at the Library. The role of teacher in increasing student interest in reading at SMP N 5 Yogyakarta is very influential. Suggestions from researchers that Yogyakarta State Junior High School 5 needs to intensify the litersion tree function in each class intensively. It is better if the collaboration between teachers and librarians in promoting reading activities can be comprehensive for all subject teachers. Yogyakarta State Junior High School 5 Library needs to frequently update and add to the library collection.
