Abstract

The aim of this study are to determine how the use of the website by the Institute for the Study and Development of Malay Culture in Yogyakarta in developing and preserving Malay culture also what would be factors that support and obstruct the method. This is a qualitative type of research which is systematic, directed also accountable, so that it will not lose it’s scientific nature. The research data were collected by observation, document review, and interviews. The result of the research shows that the use of the website as an effort to develop and preserve Malay culture had a significant positive impact. The information contained on the website were displayed in detail so that this is evidence of a comprehensive, systematic and accurate value because the use of the website is supported by a large capacity in delivering messages. In addition, offline activities will also be a support factor in order to make websites easily recognized. Meanwhile the thing that becomes the obstacle factor is the budget that the Malay Cultural Studies and Development Center own as a private institution is not comparable with the high operational costs, especially the website and this also has an impact with the lack of Human Resources as a website manager. On the other hand, Mahyudin Al-Mudra's health is continued to decreases as the head of the institution.
