Abstract

This research discusses about the causative factors and efforts to reduce damage to library materials in the Emha Ainun Nadjib library. This research aims to find out the factors that cause damage to library materials and efforts to reduce damage to library materials carried out in Emha Ainun Nadjib libraries. This study uses the theory proposed by Martoatmodjo. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques use obesity techniques, interviews, and documentation. The validity test of money data used in this study is a test of credibility of observation extension, increased persistence in research, triangulation, and membercheck. Data analysis techniques are carried out by reducing data which is then presented in the form of narrative text supported by strong data and can then be drawn credible conclusions. The results of this study are known factors that cause damage to library materials in the Emha Ainun Nadjib library are termite or insects and fungi, temperature and humidity, human factors, age of books, the quality of the book itself. Damage prevention efforts that have been done by the Emha Ainun Nadjib Library are to provide distance or empty space on each shelf, give cinnamon roots and camphor on each bookshelf, clean the bookshelf. The obstacle experienced by Emha Ainun Nadjib libraries in carrying out preservation activities is the absence of a special budget because during this time library funding, limited equipment used to carry out preservation activities, lack of human resources that can really take time for library. Lack of awareness of the library in using library materials properly and correctly.
