Abstract

This research aims is to find out how to increase reading interest in coastal areas (a case study reading interest movement in Kampung Laut Cilacap). The research method used is qualitative. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. Data accumulation tecniques this research are observation, interviews, and dokumentation. Data analysis used is data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing/ verification. The results of this study showed that there were two institutions that contributed to incrasing reading interest in Kampung Laut, between Dinas Kearsipan dan Perpustakaan Kabupaten Cilacap and Perpustakaan Kuncup Mekar. The efforts made by Dinas Kearsipan dan Perpustakaan Kabupaten Cilacap include floating library sevices, competitions and digital library services. Floating library services is very effective in increasing reading interest. Competition activities are quite effective and digital library services are not effective in increasing reading interest in Kampung Laut District. Meanwhile, the effort made by Perpustakaan Kuncup Mekar are adding a collection of fiction and socialization and promotion of new books. The socialization and promotion of new books is effective to increase reading interest and adding a collection of fiction is effective to increase reading interest for students
