Abstract

This study aims to find out how the search patterns and media used by the students of the Nurul Ummahat Islamic Boarding School Kotagede Yogyakarta. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with case study method. Data collection techniques in research using observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis was carried out by data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results of this study are the tracing patterns of the students of the Nurul Ummahat Islamic Boarding School in searching for information using Ellis' theory through several stages, starting from starting, chaining, browsing, differentiating, verifying to thestage ending. When searching for information, the informant did not use thestage monitoring. The information search process begins by typing keywords. The keywords typed in the search menu conducted by the informants are general in nature. One of the obstacles faced by informants in searching for information is that it is difficult to find information that suits their needs because of the abundance of search results and limitations in conducting information searches. Researchers suggest that the informants make an introduction and understanding in advance of the information search media used, along with the right strategy in conducting information searches to make it easier for informants to search for and find information that suits their needs.
