Abstract

This study aims to describe and to find out the opportunities and the challenges which were appeared in the implementation of digitizing of library's materials as an effort to preserve the information at Warung Arsip Yogyakarta. This research uses qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The collecting data uses the observation's method, interviews and documentations. The data analysis technique used in this research is data's reduction, data's presentation, and conclusion's drawing. Based on this research, it is concluded that these activities are not purely an activity of information's saving, but they are economic activities with profits as operational funding for activities that support the digitization's process and literacy's activities. This activity uses two methods, namely scanning for the library's materials of magazine and shooting for newspaper's collections. The digitization process has problems due to lack of human's resources (HR) and limited digital archive's storage. In the implementation of this activity, there is a creativity in maximizing information by using archives as the material to create new works, such as rewriting into essays, books, and etc . Based on the results of this analysis, the main strategies that can be used are taking the chance of relationship's opportunities to reach more information and to get more development. As an effort in facing the challenges, Warung Arsip Yogyakarta by using the strategy of socialization of archive's digitization in order to improve the development. The further research that the researcher can recommend is the preservation of library's materials before the digitization's process and business' practices that carried out by Warung Arsip Yogyakarta.
