Abstract

This study aims to determine (1) how parenting styles foster interest in reading in the alpha generation, (2) to determine the factors that cause difficulties in children's interest in reading, and (3) to find out the efforts made carried out by parents in fostering children's interest in reading. Interested in reading the alpha generation of Kecicang Asri Housing, the Islamic Village of Kecicang in Karangasem, Bali. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research, the researcher describes based on the results of the study by providing an overview of what is happening in the field. This research was conducted in Kecicang Asri Housing, Kecicang Islam Village, Karangasem, Bali, with data collection techniques, namely, observation, interviews, and documentation. In this study, researchers used data analysis techniques, namely, data reduction (data reduction), data presentation (data display), and conclusions (conclusion). As for testing the credibility of the data, the researcher used the technique of extension of participation, discussion with colleagues, triangulation, and member check. The results of this study are (1) the parenting style used by parents in fostering interest in reading generations in Kecicang Asri Housing, Kecicang Islam Village, Karangasem, Bali, the type of democratic parenting. (2) The factors causing children's difficulties in reading in Kecicang Asri Housing, Kecicang Islam Hamlet, Karangasem, Bali are parents who do not provide care and control their children's interest in reading because their parents are more active outside the home. So, when children read, if they find vocabulary that is difficult to understand, they are confused about who to ask. Therefore, it is important to supervise children from their parents in the growing interest in reading. (3) The efforts made by parents in fostering interest in reading alpha generation in Kecicang Asri Housing, Kecicang Islam Hamlet, Karangasem, Bali are quite good. Parents facilitate reading books that their children like, starting from sticking posters related to reading interest in their children's rooms, buying toys that have educational elements, and reading children's fairy tales before bed. This will stimulate children's interest in reading.
