Abstract

This study aims to examine how the role of Islamic libraries in the Renaissance in Europe, especially through research at that time which was the opening door for Europe to tread the modern world. The type of research used is literature study with a historical approach and is included in the qualitative method. The collection technique applied documentation. Data analysis was carried out through heuristics, criticism or verification, interpretation, and historiography. The results showed that the transmission of knowledge from East to West passed through three main routes, namely Andalusia, Sicily, and Crusade. The influence of the Crusade was not too big, among others, confronting the West with the East. Andalusia became the center of civilization with its library collections which attracted scholars from all over the world. Many book were used and studied to later inspire the establishment of universities in Europe. The same thing happened in Sicily under the jurisdiction of a Christian government that adhered to the Islamic system. Books spread more widely after the introduction of paper and the invention of the printing press. The impact included Averroism’s thinking that encouraged the Renaissance and allowed Europe to explore the oceans and meet new areas, so that Europe became advanced and became the leader of world civilization today.
