Abstract

Technological developments make conventional mass media, especially radio, start using the internet as a tool to attract and connect audiences with radio stations. In the midst of competition from every radio station that has used social media, Radio Saka FM innovates by relying on technological developments, the research conducted is to see the convergence of community radio media in using social media. The theory of this research is media convergence and the continuum convergence model “Dailey, Demo, and Spillman”. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques using observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of this study explain that all information on Radio Saka FM is not only conveyed through analog radio but is uploaded through social media. Radio Saka FM uses social media Instagram and Youtube. Radio Saka FM applies a 5-level continuum convergence model which includes cross promotion, cloning, coopetition, content sharing, while full coverage has not been fully implemented. Radio Saka FM can take advantage of the convergence era through social media in order to survive in the midst of intense competition in the broadcasting industry.
