Abstract

The use of social media has made most people do more intense self-disclosure than before. This study aims to determine the relationship between intimate friendship and self-disclosure on Twitter with gender as a moderating variable. The method used in this research is quantitative method. The subjects in this study were 120 people of Generation Z (60 males and 60 females) who actively used Twitter with an age range of 18-25 years, which were taken using a non-probability sampling technique (quota sampling). Data collection in the study was carried out using a self-disclosure on Twitter scale with a reliability value 0,957 and intimate friendship scale with reliability value 0,957. The data analysis technique in this study used simple regression analysis and multiple linear regression with the absolute difference value test method. The results showed that there was a positive relationship between intimate friendship and self-disclosure on Twitter in Generation Z. The intimate friendship variable contributed 58.4% to self-disclosure, meaning that the higher the intimate friendship of Generation Z on Twitter, the higher the self-disclosure behavior carried out by Generation Z on Twitter social media. Gender in this study did not have a moderating role in the relationship between intimate friendship and self-disclosure on social media Twitter in Generation Z.
