Abstract

Parenting style is fundamental in determining the growth and development of children, including in the formation of Islamic character. Remembering character is a severe problem that must be addressed because of the moral crisis of the nation's generations. Through parenting, it is hoped that children can achieve success in forming Islamic character to form human beings with good behavior, personality, and virtuous character based on the Qur'an and Hadith. For this reason, this study aims to determine parenting patterns in forming the Islamic character of early childhood in coastal areas. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. Analyzed using the Miles & Huberman technique, the validity of the data used data triangulation, namely reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The location of this research was conducted in the Bird Island District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau. Participants in this study were five parents who had early childhood in the Bird Island District. The study results show that in providing care for their children, parents use democratic and permissive parenting styles. Parents with democratic parenting styles are open-minded, respond well to children, apply standards and limits to children, and make children's Islamic character very well developed (BSB). However, on the other hand, parents with permissive parenting styles give too much freedom to children. , and the absence of strict and clear rules makes the Islamic character of children tend to be in the Beginning to Develop (MB) category with aspects of Islamic character in relations with Allah and the Messenger, relations with humans and oneself, and human relations with the environment. Two factors influence parenting in the formation of children's Islamic character, namely supporting factors, including 1) good examples or role models, 2) praise and motivation, 3) habituation and inhibiting factors, including 1) lack of parental guidance and supervision, 2) parents who are busy working, 3) less firm rules. Furthermore, the impact of Islamic character in children's daily life is that children have signs or guidelines for behaving, and children love goodness.
