Abstract

Rapid and advanced technological developments continue to create sophisticated, efficient, and high-tech tools and equipment to support human needs such as smartphones. Smartphones usage that are practical and easy to carry everywhere influences changes in user behavior, one example of smartphone abuse is cyberloafing behavior. The high use of smartphones and cyberloafing behavior in the workplace has an impact on employee performance in an agency. This study aims to determine how the influence of the intensity of smartphone use and cyberloafing on employee performance by using self-control as a moderating variable. The population and sample in this study were employees of the Bank Aceh. This study aims to determine whether one variable can affect other variables and whether the moderating variable can affect the relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variable. The sample in this study amounted to 33 respondents with data collection techniques using a questionnaire. The analytical method used is validity test, reliability test, classical assumption test, multiple linear regression analysis, and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) test using SPSS 25. Results of this study indicate that the intensity of smartphone use has a negative effect on employee performance and self-control has a positive effect on employee performance, and self-control can weaken the intensity of smartphone use on employee performance. Cyberloafing does not affect employee performance, while self-control is not able to weaken cyberloafing on the performance of Bank Aceh employees.
