Abstract

Section of Academic at the Faculty of Science and Technology, State Islamic Univercity Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta often has problem in every middle and end of the semester. That problem is the creation of the semester exam schedule is still manual. This causes the process of scheduling takes a long time, and make a lot of complaints from students and supervisors due to clashes on exam schedules and monitoring schedules. Therefore, Section of Academic need a semester exam schedule for facilitate it’s performance. The semester exam scheduling system was built by implementing Tabu Search Algorithm. Tabu Search is a local search technique that solve optimization problems by searching for the best neighbour solution based on constraints and penalties. This system used Tabu Search algorithm to optimize the initial schedule. The initial schedule was alocated from classes of exam and supervisors which placed based on dates and sessions of exam. The result of this initial schedule optimization is optimal schedule with the most minimal of penalty. This semester exam scheduling system can provide information about exam schedule from each student and monitoring schedule from each supervisor, and can implement Tabu Search algorithm well. This system also can overcome the main problem that faced by Section of Academic based on the result of comparison experiments between manual exam scheduling and exam scheduling by system. In addition, the system can execute functional process well, also can be accepted and used by users based on the result of research.
