Abstract

This research aims to find out of the Effect of Internet Use on reading interest student’s in the library of SMK Negeri (Public Vocational High School) 2 Surakarta. This benefit is expected to give input to the Library of SMK Negeri 2 Surakarta in the attempt of improving the internet use and knowledge in library field particularly in internet development, management and utilization field and is one research to improve the student’s reading interest in using internet service in the library of SMK Negeri 2 Surakarta. This research employed survey method because there were two research variables: internet use in the library (independent variable) and student’s reading interest (dependent variable). The research was taken place in the library of SMK Negeri 2 Surakarta with the population of 1,278 students. The sample of research consisted of 93 respondents taken using simple random sampling. The data collection was done using observation, interview, documentation, and questionnaire techniques. The result of research showed that the use of internet in the library of SMK Negeri 2 Surakarta was good; it can be seen from the high score of 3.15. Meanwhile the student’s reading interest from internal factor was categorized as very good; it can be seen from a very high score of 3.34. Meanwhile the student’s reading interest from external factor was categorized as good; it can be seen from a high score of 3.12. Method of analyzing data used was simple linear regression quantitative analysis technique. The data was processed using SPSS version 18 for windows. The result of research data analysis shows that there is a positive and significant effect of the effect of internet use on reading interest student’s in the library of SMK Negeri 2 Surakarta. It can be seen from the result of correlation coefficient (R) estimation of 0.361 and the result of hypothesis testing is obtained with the condition of t statistic > t table, so the hypothesis stating that there is a significant effect is supported and proved. From the result of product moment data processing, it can be found that the use of internet in library affects 0.548 students’ reading fondness meaning that it has moderate effect.
