Abstract

Along with the rapid development of technology, the spread of various information and communications is getting faster and wider. In order to facilitate the exchange of information, an application is needed that can retrieve and display information data ef ficiently and quickly. Therefore, an efficient and fast HTTP Networking Library is needed to connect android applications with a database that has a REST API architecture on web services. Each HTTP Networking Library created by the developer has a differen t performance in the process of retrieving REST API data, so testing is needed to compare the performance of the HTTP Networking Library. This research focuses on several HTTP Networking Libraries, namely the HttpURLConnection library, the Loopj library, t he OkHttp library, the Retrofit library, and the Volley library. The parameters used in the performance comparison include response time, network usage, and memory usage. The test is to retrieve data on a public online database with a web service architect ure in the form of a REST API. The use of an online database aims to determine the effect of internet quality on the performance of the HTTP Networking Library. The test results of this study indicate that the fastest response time is found in the HttpURLConnect ion library with an average of 151.1 ms. The smallest network usage is found in the Loopj library with an average of 5150.9 B. Meanwhile, the smallest memory usage is found in the Loopj library with an average of 5171.65 kB. In addition, the test results i n this study also show that internet quality affects the performance of the HTTP Networking Library in retrieving REST API data. Poor internet quality causes an increase in response time, network usage, and memory usage for each library.
