Abstract

This research was conducted in the library of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of user education toward information searching of freshman class 2009 at the library of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This research is expected to increase the insight of education especially in the library and information science. The population of this research are freshmans class 2009 in UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta as many as 3389 people. Determination of the number quantity of sample was used of Morgan Formula. The number of freshmans who follow user education is 345 people. The techniques used in sampling is non-probability sampling techniques with the accidental sampling. The method of collecting data through interviews, questionnaires, observation and documentation. Methods of measuring instruments using Likert scale. Testing the validity instrumen performed with correlation coefficient approach with Pearson Product Moment formula and reliability testing instrument with Alpha Cronbach test. To know the influence of user education toward information searching in the library of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta used Product Moment correlation. Data processing was performed using SPSS version 13.0 for windows. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive and significant influence of user education toward information searching of freshman class 2009 in the library of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The correlation coefficient (r) is 0.524 and error opportunity (p) is 0.000 or p <0.05. The coefficient of determination (R square) regression results is 0.274, this shows that 27.4% information searching is influenced by user education, while 72.6% are influenced by other variables that are not revealed in this study.
