Abstract

This research aims to determine the role of the Alam Library in society's empowerment in Mergosono Village, Buayan District, Kebumen Regency. This research used a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The research's subjects consisted of the managers of the Alam Library and the society of Mergosono Village who did the society's empowerment activities in the Alam Library. The object of this research is the society's empowerment of Mergosono Village in the Alam Library. The data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observation and documentation. This research used data analysis techniques Miles and Huberman model that consist of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and data verification or drawing conclusions. The results of this research are: 1) The Alam Library in the society's empowerment has three types of empowerment, namely human empowerment, business empowerment, and environmental empowerment. The human empowerment activitiy was divided into two aspects, namely the educational aspect and the religious aspect. The educational aspect includes inspiration class activity, literacy and playing class, while the religious aspect includes recitation class activity and sakinah family class. Furthermore, the business empowerment carried out by the Alam Library formed a fish cultivator group (POKDAKAN) and the environmental empowerment is by improving the road infrastructure of Mergosono Village. 2) The role of the Alam Library in the society's empowerment of Mergosono village includes institutional improvement, income improvement, environmental improvement, life improvement, and community improvement. 3) The obstacles faced are the human resources of the Alam Library supervisors, the budget of the activity, and the lack of public's interest to join the activities that organized by the Alam Library. In solving these obstacles, the Alam Library tried to maintain the communication between the supervisors of the Alam Library, establish partnerships with several companies and make some approaches with the community and the government.
