Abstract
Language style can be found in everyday life, such as when someone talks to their parents, peers, and teachers. Someone will change his language style depending on who he is talking to. The object of this research is the Ms. Marvel TV series, which consists of six episodes. However, the researcher only chose the selected episodes from episodes one to three. This research aims to identify the several language styles used by Kamala Khan in the Ms. Marvel TV series selected episodes and to discover some factors influencing Kamala Khan as the main character in this TV series using different language styles. The researcher analyzed this series using Martin Joos’s theory of language style, divided into frozen style, formal style, consultative style, casual style, and intimate style, and Janet Holmes's theory of social factors to identify why people speak different language styles. This research used a descriptive qualitative method and collected data from the TV series and the scripts. There are 118 data found in the Ms. Marvel TV series selected episodes containing language style. According to Joos's theory, Kamala used four types of language styles, and the most frequent language she used was a casual style. In addition, 173 data on social factors that influenced Kamala to speak different language styles were found. Kamala’s choice of language style mainly influences the combination of topic and setting.
