Abstract

Politics and Islam are two different aspects, which has led to different opinions about their relationship. Islam is a religion whose teachings encompass all aspects of life, including politics. The emergence of the involvement of ulama in the political arena is their effort to address political problems in accordance with religious teachings. Even among them, there are those who use the media in this digital era in their involvement, such as Prof. Dr. Muhammad Quraish Shihab who shared an idea related to politics through his YouTube channel, Quraish Shihab. This study aims to determine the discourse of Islamic political ethics conveyed by Muhammad Quraish Shihab in his content entitled, "Islam dan Politik (Bagian Satu) | M. Quraish Shihab Podcast". The approach of this study is descriptive qualitative, which uses the method of critical discourse analysis by Teun A. Van Dijk with the theory of Agenda Setting and the theory of New Media. The results of the study show that the discourse of Muhammad Quraish Shihab in the content emphasizes the importance of ethical values in politics and found several points of Islamic political ethics, namely tolerance and unity, justice, trust, and democracy. Muhammad Quraish Shihab in his discourse tends to emphasize the values of tolerance and unity, as well as justice. These three values have a great influence on the active process of democracy and the responsibility that is owned.
