Abstract

The development of social media has brought some significant changes in the way of obtaining information, including disaster information. Where one alternative source of disaster information that is increasingly relevant in the digital era is exposure to citizen journalism content on social media, such as on the @merapi_uncover Instagram account, which actively disseminates disaster information in the Region of Yogyakarta and its surroundings. Based on this, this study aims to determine the effect of exposure to citizen journalism content on the @merapi_uncover Instagram account on the fulfillment of disaster information needs among its followers. The method used is a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression test. The theory used in this research is the Hypodermic Needle Theory based on the assumption that mass media has a direct, immediate and strong effect on its audience. The results of the study showed that the variable Exposure to Citizen journalism Content on Instagram has a significant effect on the variable Fulfillment of Disaster Information Needs with an influence value of 66.1%. This finding shows that citizen journalism content on social media can be an effective alternative source of information in disaster emergency situations.
