Abstract

Language variations arise as a result of the existence of social interaction activities. One of the language variations is the Cant Language. The cant language is a particular social variation that pitches pleading, made to whine, full of pretense that is usually used by beggars, as reflected in the expression “the cant of a beggar” (beggar's language). In fact, the cant language is used not only for beggars but also for everyone unconsciously, which becomes a part of our daily life. The researcher uses the cant language theory by Suherlan and Odien, and Chaer and Agustina, and the theory used to strengthen the utterance is the SPEAKING theory by Dell Hymes (1972). A descriptive qualitative method uses for explaining the data descriptively. The researcher uses MS MARVEL (TV Series) 2022 and finds seventy-two characteristics of the cant language that are portrayed in the film such as the language of low social class, using a pleading tone, whining in communication, exaggerated word, expect attention, and full of pretense. The researcher also finds the reason for using the cant language in communication like begging, persuading, or attracting. n opinion or a statement about the cant language used by certain social groups for this case is a beggar from low social class is not that correct. It is proven by the findings of this research which founds there are seventy-two characteristics of the cant language used by people with middle or high social class and one data used by people with low social class.
