Abstract

This research aims to determine the utilization of fiction collection in Loka Ghana Library SMA Negeri 1 Sedayu Bantul Yogyakarta. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative to analyze and explain the use of fiction collection at Loka Ghana Library SMA Negeri 1 Sedayu. This research data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. Analysis of this research data through data reduction, data display, and verification. Validation of research data using triangulation of sources, techniques, and membercheck. The result showed that SMA Negeri 1 Sedayu’s students preferred to borrow fiction collection to take home rather than read them on the spot. The time students spend reading a collection of fiction depends on the number of pages, free time, and how interesting the stories are. They spend 3-5 days. The genre that students are most interested in is the romance. The students’ goal to use fiction collection are for entertainment, to spend free time, and to increase vocabulary. Students utilize the fiction collection at Loka Ghana Library because the location is near, varied collection, and the library is comfortable. After utilizing the fiction collection, students can gain learning, insight, solution for daily problems, increase empathy, and enrich imagination and creativity. The Loka Ghana Library provides OPAC, self-lending system, ample on-site reading space, and good condition of fiction shelves. However, the fiction collection shelf hasn’t been able to accommodate the entire fiction collection, the librarian isn’t careful when processing books, the processing of books that haven’t been completed but has been placed on the shelf, there are pirated fiction books, and the librarian doesn’t immediately return fiction books that have been borrowed.
