Abstract

This study used the Body of Lies movie as the object of study. The movie tells the story of CIA agents fighting terrorism whose organizational network has spread throughout the world. The movie shows that terrorists are Muslims which can be controversial as it shows that Islam is a terrorist. The purpose of this study is to reveal the true identity of the terrorists in order to distinguish them from real Muslims. The theory used in the study uses the theory of Language and Identity formulated by Joanna Thornborrow. The method used in this study uses descriptive qualitative research methods. In this study revealed that the true identity of terrorists is Islam. However, the identity of terrorists is different from that of Muslims who are not terrorists. There is the use of languages such as Jihad, Shahid and Al-Qaeda which are the language of Islamic identity but are very identical to the identity of the terrorists. The use of this language is very rarely used by Muslims in general. It has even become the identity language of the terrorists. So, the results of his research explain that terrorists in the movie Body of Lies have a Muslim identity, but have a different identity from Muslims in general. Not all Muslim characters identify as terrorists.
