Abstract
In the 2024 Indonesia Presidential Election, candidate of the president Prabowo Subianto displays a witty style that is popularly referred to as ‘gemoy’. Prabowo’s news style, which went viral on social media, was considered a creative and effective strategy to gain votes during the election. The purpose of this research is to analyze how Tirto.id framed Prabowo Subianto’s gemoy image. The approach of this research using descriptive-qualitative method and for analysis using Murray Edelman model of framing analysis. The object of this research is the news framing of Prabowo Subianto’s gemoy image. Meanwhile, the subject are eight news articles published by Tirto.id about Prabowo Subianto’s gemoy image from October 26, 2023 until January 8, 2024. The result of this research, Tirto.id reported Prabowo Subianto’s gemoy image ahead of the election using a critical point of view. Tirto.id is commited to educating the public on how to view and respond to political phenomena in this country with critical logic. What is seen on the surface is not necessarily the same as what is happening behind it. Furthermore, this study found that media independence directly affects the level of courage and criticality of the media in voicing political issues that favor the public interest.
