Abstract

Library staff perform a variety of tasks on a daily basis, such as providing services to users, performing administrative work, and routine tasks such as selecting, processing, and maintaining library materials. Serving the diverse needs and queries of users requires a great deal of energy, as well as patience and understanding of their wishes. All of this work can provide workload, both physically and mentally for library staff. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of mental workload felt by library staff at the Yogyakarta State University Library and to propose strategies in an effort to reduce mental workload based on the final results. This research uses quantitative descriptive method. The subjects in this study were library staff at the Yogyakarta State University Library with a population of ten people. Due to the small population, this study used saturated samples where all members of the population were sampled, namely 10 respondents. The method for calculating the mental workload of library staff is the NASA-TLX method. The data collection technique used a questionnaire provided by NASA-TLX. Data analysis techniques used in accordance with NASA-TLX procedures are calculating product value, calculating WWL or Weighted Workload, calculating average WWL, and classification of mental workload final results. The results of this research show that the workload felt by library staff is relatively high, with the highest score being 89.33% in the very high category and the lowest score being 46.66% in the somewhat high category. It was also found that the factor that most influences mental workload is Performance with a percentage of 29%. The main cause is that the number of library staff is small and there are overtime schedules or working outside working hours every day
