Abstract

FIFA decided that Indonesia could not host the World Cup U-20 even though preparations were complete. This caused a lot of controversy and disappointment for the Indonesian people, especially Indonesian football fans. The failure to host the World Cup U-20 has become a topic of discussion on various topics and has given rise to various speculations. Majalah TEMPO as one of the mass media also reported and framed the reality of Indonesia's failure to become the host through special coverage or its main report in edition 5207. This research will discuss about the framing carried out by Majalah TEMPO towards reality through the framing method modeled by Robert N. Entman which consists of four framing devices, namely define problem, diagnose causes, make moral judgment, and treatment recommendation. The results of this research shows that Majalah TEMPO framed the failure that occurred because there was a conflict of interest carried out by political elites that was not widely known to the Indonesian people. These political interests were very influential in the cancellation of the World Cup U-20 Indonesia even though FIFA did not provide an official reason. Apart from that, Majalah TEMPO positions itself as a neutral media without leading readers' opinions to blame or corner either party who rejects or accepts it.
