Abstract

Indonesia is known as a person who upholds human values, because many foreign refugees feel protected from the polemics they experience, such as the Rohingya and Myanmar ethnicity. However, in 2023, Indonesia displays a bad reputation, namely the rejection of Rohingya refugees. Due to the treatment of Rohingya refugees which contradicts local cultural norms, local residents carry out discriminatory actions against Rohingya refugees. The treatment sparked attention and condemnation from governments and international organizations, which led the national media to highlight the case, especially Kompas.com and Republika.co.id, which at the same time answered the formulation of the problem in this study, about the difference in framing related to the issue of refusal of Rohingya refugees in the December 2023 edition. This study uses a qualitative approach , and uses framing analysis of the Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M Kosicki model with 4 structures, namely: syntax, script, thematic, and rhetorical. It was concluded that the two media had something in common, namely advocating for policies and social control. On the contrary, there are several differences, namely from these two media, namely Kompas.com advocating through a humanitarian empathy approach involving Rohingya resource persons, and the national government. Meanwhile ,Republika.co.id advocated through statements of religious leaders from the perspective of Islamic solidarity.
