Abstract
This research aims to find out how SEA Today News editorial policy in Islamic news on the SEA Morning Show program “The Story Of UK’s Muslim Community” based on the hierarchy of influence theory using descriptive qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques using documentation studies, participant observation when the author was an intern at SEA Today TV and interviews with program producer, creative team and HRD. The results of this study indicate that the editorial policy of SEA Today News is influenced by five factors based on the hierarchy of influence theory, namely individual level factors, media routine level, media organization level, extramedia level and ideology level. With regard to the five influence factors above, the results show that the most influential factors are at three levels: media routine, media organization and ideology. 1. Media routine include the selection of islamic news sources in accordance with government policies, followed by media organization routines that carry out the production process of Islamic news by media workers under the supervision of the editor-in-chief and audience response as a consideration for further news production. This level is very influential in the news production process, especially in Islamic news that is inspiring, factual and neutral while building a positive image of Indonesia at the global level and as an objective understanding of the Muslim community in the UK. Then 2. Media Organization, explaining that organizational management such as editor-in-chief, Producer, Editor, Creative, Production Assistan and other media worker teams carry out the production process in accordance with the editorial policy procedures set by the editor-in-chief, each stage starting from topic selection, information filtering, editing to news presentation to maintain a balance between government policies and the information needs of the global community. And 3. ideology that builds a more objective understanding of Islam shows how Muslims in the UK continue to preach peacefully despite limitations, spread moderate and tolerant Islamic values and strengthen Islamic identity based on peace and diversity at the international level.
