Abstract
The title of this research is "Deixis Analysis in the Podcast 'There is a lot to learn from this woman". This research focuses on the use of deixis by applying George Yule's (1996) theory to podcasts contained in podcasts. The object of this study is the utterances containing deixis contained in the podcast. The main aim of this research is to explain the types of deixis used in podcasts and describe the meaning of the use of deixis in this context, because in-referents in meaning in deixis can cause discrepancies between speakers and listeners. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method. Research data was taken from the podcast "There is a lot to learn from this woman" which is 8 minutes 5 seconds long. This episode has been published and is generally available in video form on the podcast platform on February 14 2023. The research results show that there is a total of 251 deixis contained in the podcast dialogue. From this data, 3 types of deixis were identified according to George Yule's classification, namely 245-person deixis, 2 temporal deixis, and 4 spatial deixis. The results of the analysis show that the use of person deixis is more dominant than temporal and spatial deixis. This is because words used in temporal and spatial deixis, such as "house" and "office", have clear meanings and are not included in the deixis category. In contrast, person deixis involves frequent use of pronouns by the speaker. Additionally, an interesting phenomenon was found related to the use of the "I" deixis. Typically, "I" deixis refers to the speaker, but this analysis reveals that "I" can also refer to the interlocutor, even though it is still spoken by the same person. This change in reference occurs due to repetition or emphasis on sentences spoken by the speaker.
