Abstract

The new media era has given birth to a creative way for every individual to represent and strengthen their identity through new media without limits. However, this method can sometimes present challenges for society and the state, such as the presence of cultural homogenization. As a Muslim majority country with rich cultural diversity, Indonesia can face this challenge through the use of new media. Like the Youtube account Gamelan Orkestra Nusantara, where this account tries to show the construction of Islamic identity and Javanese culture in each of its videos through shalawat activities. This study aims to determine the construction of Islamic identity and Javanese culture in a video entitled1 Hour Full of Meaning of Gamelan Sholawat & Pitutur Luhur (August 18, 2024) Gus Fuad Plered.The method used is Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis with a qualitative approach. The data source comes from the results of media observations and documentation studies. The results of this study indicate that there are elements of Islamic identity and Javanese culture. These two identitiesgiving birth to an intervention between Islam and Javanese culture that shows that these two entities are not opposing poles, but rather a wealth that complements each other and strengthens each other's identity. The interaction that occurs between the two produces a beautiful and unique harmony that is creatively packaged through an audio-visual space
