Abstract
One of the main challenges for distributors is the distribution system, which affects high costs and the effectiveness of delivering products to consumers. Therefore, it is necessary to apply an appropriate transportation method to improve distribution efficiency and minimize operational costs. This study aims to assist the company in resolving distribution issues by focusing on the cost optimization strategy for the distribution of LPG 3 Kg at PT. Sinar Putra Pertam Bantul. To achieve this goal, two initial solutions in the transportation method are used, namely the Sumathi Shatiya Method and the Lowest Supply Lowest Cost (LSLC) Method. The Sumathi Shatiya Method is applied by systematically selecting the minimum cost in each row and column. Meanwhile, the LSLC method is implemented by determining the lowest distribution cost based on the lowest supply at each distribution point. Both methods aim to minimize total costs by considering the efficient use of resources. Based on the analysis results, the Sumathi Shatiya Method resulted in a distribution cost of IDR 5,908,890, while the LSLC Method resulted in IDR 5,995,550. To achieve a more optimal solution, this study also applied the Modified Distribution Method (MODI), which aims to refine the distribution process by improving the efficiency of resource allocation. Based on the distribution costs incurred by PT. Sinar Putra Pertam in October 2024, which amounted to IDR 7,027,000, the Sumathi Shatiya Method optimized with MODI has the potential to save IDR 1,118,110 (15.91%), while LSLC saves IDR 1,031,450 (14.68%). Therefore, the implementation of the Sumathi Shatiya Method followed by MODI in addressing distribution cost issues yields a more optimal result.
