Abstract
The competitive food industry requires packaging innovation that balances functionality with emotional appeal. Initially, packaging merely protected products during shipping, but its role has expanded to include brand identity, purchase accuracy, and sales growth through attractive designs. This study employs Kansei Engineering and Quality Function Deployment (QFD) to redesign packaging for DW Mochi, addressing customer complaints: dent-prone materials, choking risks from strapless designs, spilled powder due to poor seals, flavor confusion from unclear labeling, and generic aesthetics lacking brand identity. The methodology involves Kansei questionnaires to capture consumer preferences, House of Quality (HOQ) analysis to convert these into technical specs, and a design phase with sketches and 3D modeling (SolidWorks). The solution features eco-friendly Bio-PET material, a one-press clip-lock system for secure sealing, and comprehensive labeling—including ingredients, flavor variants, halal certification, net weight, the product name "DW Mochi", mochi imagery, a combined DW-crown logo, and contact details. These improvements aim to enhance safety, usability, and brand recognition while aligning with consumer expectations. The integration of emotional (Kansei) and Quality Function Deploymment (QFD) approaches ensures the design meets both functional and perceptual demands, demonstrating how strategic packaging innovation can resolve practical issues while strengthening market positioning in a competitive industry.
