Abstract

Yogyakarta until recently still be a major destination as a place to get a quality education in Indonesia. Every year thousands of new residents came to Yogyakarta from almost all over Indonesia to study in Yogyakarta. As a newcomer in Yogyakarta, they need a temporary shelter or called a boarding house as long as studying in Yogyakarta. With so many considerations in choosing a boarding house and accelerate the searching process, therefore it needed a smartphone app that role to assist in solving the problem, by utilizing the hardware support on smartphones such as the camera, GPS, accelerometer sensor, compass, and support high data connection. In the process of developing the mobile application, there are two steps being taken, namely the construction of web applications to manage data, and applications for android smartphone used as a search tool. The development of the web applications using PHP and MySQL. While applications for smartphones built with the Java programming language. The system is capable to display the user's location and the location of the nearest boarding house in Yogyakarta with a certain radius. With augmented reality technology in this application the user can obtain information accurately and clearly. Keywords: Augmented Reality, GPS (Global Positioning System), Android, Smartphone.
