Abstract
This study aims to examine the discourse of defending the habaib as the Prophet’s descendants in the Rabithah Alawiyah seminar broadcast on the Nabawi TV YouTube channel. This phenomenon is important to investigate due to the increasing prevalence of religious teachings that deviate from the principles of Islamic law but still receive public space and support, particularly on digital platforms. Religious figures who claim descent from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) often use symbolic legitimacy to convey controversial statements and practices, which ultimately cause public anxiety and spread misinformation within society. This research employs a qualitative method with a critical paradigm, utilizing Sara Mills discourse analysis. The data were obtained from the documentation of YouTube seminar videos, using literature study as the primary data collection technique. Theories applied include the social construction of reality, ideology, and hegemony. The findings reveal several forms of deviation, such as cult of personality based on lineage, religious commercialization, provocative speech, manipulation of religious texts, and promotion of superstition and bid‘ah. The dominant discourse constructed by the habib is one of absolute religious authority based on ancestry, portraying descendants of the Prophet as figures beyond criticism. This discourse divides public opinion, fosters blind loyalty, and increases the misuse of religious symbols in the digital public sphere. From the perspective of Islamic communication, the seminar requires a more educational, ethical, and moderated approach to ensure the integrity of the Islamic message. The study concludes that religious symbols are not inherently sacred or absolute, but rather social constructs contested within ideological and cultural arenas. This research contributes to the development of digital Islamic literacy, enhances public awareness of symbolic manipulation in religious discourse, and underscores the importance of conveying Islamic messages in a critical and ethical manner aligned with the principles of Islamic communication
