Abstract

The significant rise in social media users in Indonesia, reaching 191 million by 2024, has fueled the pervasive phenomenon of cyberbullying. UNICEF data reveals that 45% of Indonesian adolescents (aged 14-24) have experienced online bullying, predominantly through chat applications and the unauthorized dissemination of content. Cyberbullying is defined as repeated electronic aggression intended to harm or threaten. This study aims to identify the forms of cyberbullying on the Twitter (X) platform, specifically targeting Manchester United fans via the @idextratime account, and Analyzing the aspect of emotion regulation in fans. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, this research illustrates cyberbullying incidents, drawing on Price & Dalgleish's (2010) cyberbullying theory. The findings identified 133 tweets containing cyberbullying elements related to the emotion regulation of Manchester United fans. The most dominant forms were "opinion slammed" (109 tweets), followed by "image of victim spread" (87 tweets), and "called name" (20 tweets). Cyberbullying activity from the @idextratime account significantly increased during Manchester United matches (86 tweets) compared to non-match days (47 tweets), indicating game moments as key triggers. The majority of Manchester United fans struggled with emotion management, evidenced by 96 negative reply tweets, while only 37 replies demonstrated controlled emotional responses. This study concludes that most Manchester United fans are vulnerable to cyberbullying provocation and tend to react impulsively on social media
