Abstract

This study aims to identify the effectiveness of OPAC in searching Javanese language book collections in the Library of the Faculty of Language, Arts, and Culture of Yogyakarta State University using the title and subject search section based on recall and precision review. This study used a quantitative descriptive method. The population in this study was obtained from the data classification number 499.2 stored in the OPAC database in the library of the Faculty of Language, Arts, and Culture of Yogyakarta State University. The determination of samples used a purposive sampling technique and obtained 30 samples as Javanese language subjects and keywords for searching. The data collection technique used a test with a laptop to determine hits, misses, and noise. Data were analyzed using recall and precision calculations to describe the effectiveness of OPAC in the library of the Faculty of Language, Arts, and Culture of Yogyakarta State University. The search test used 30 Javanese language subjects and obtained an average title section recall value of 0.89 or 89% and a precision value of 0.60 or 60%. In addition, the average subject section recall value was 0.82 or 82% with a precision value of 0.71 or 71%. Thus, it can be said that the OPAC information retrieval system for 30 Javanese language subjects using the title and subject sections is considered less effective. This is caused by the inconsistency between the queries and subjects used by the librarian and the large number of irrelevant Javanese language collections displayed by the OPAC system resulting in a higher recall percentage than the precision.
