Abstract

This study aims to find out the use of collections, factors that encourage users to utilize collections, and obstacles in accessing collections. The method used in this study is qualitative. The subjects in this study are students who use the UMY Library E-book application and the library staff of the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, and the object of this study is the use of collections in the UMY Library E-book application. The data collection method in this study uses observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique goes through three stages, namely: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The validity test uses 4 tests, namely: credibility test (triangulation, using membercheck reference materials), transferability test, dependability test, and confirmability test. The results of the study show that the utilization or weariness of the collection can be measured by 3 indicators, namely the frequency of use, the amount used, and the intensity of use. The collection in the UMY Library E-book application has been used by users in finding assignment reference materials to fulfill students' lecture assignments and final projects. Meanwhile, there are several obstacles in accessing collections such as collections that cannot be accessed offline and loading the application when accessed. There are 2 driving factors for users in utilizing collections, namely: the need factor and the motive factor. The need factor occurs because of the need for information to find reference materials in doing coursework, learning resources for exams and for reference materials for student research final projects. The motive factor is determined by the expectation factor that a need can be met, in this case the motive experienced by users to access the collection on the UMY Library E-book application is to be able to meet existing needs.
