Abstract

This research is entitled Analysis of Translation Methods used in the Novel And the Mountain Echoed by Khaled Hosseini. Researchers used the novel And the Mountain Echoed by Khaled Hosseini and its Indonesian translation as the object of this research material. This research aims to examine the methods used by translators in the Indonesian translation of Khaled Hosseini's And the Mountain Echoed. This research uses Newmark's theory (1988) of translation methods. The method used is descriptive qualitative methods to analyse translation methods in the novel And the Mountain Echoed. The data collection tehnique uses the listening method (metode simak) with note-taking technique. Research data obtained by reading and understanding the method used in the novel And the Mountain Echoed by Khaled Hosseini. The results of this research found that translators employed five out of the eight common translation methods in translating the novel And the Mountain Echoed by Khaled Hossseini. The total data found was 1228 data. The translation methods are word for word translation of 34 data, literal translation of 437 data, semantic translation of 276 data, free translation of 465 data, and idiomatic translation of 16 data. These five methods are often used by translators, but after reading and comparing the original novel with the translation, it is known that the free translation method is the most commonly used by translators.
