Abstract

The phenomenon of shifting muslim women’s identities on social media has become inscreasingly apparent in years, especially on Instagram, which emphasizes visual expression as a form of self-representation. Many muslim women’s display symbols of Islam such as the hijab, but this is not always in line with the velue of iffah, izzah, and marwah, wich are the guiedlines for modesty and dignity in Islamic teaching. Amidst this dynamic, the Instagram account @atikacahyaa has emerged asa a figure that consistenly displays a modest muslim lifestyle in accordance with Islamic law, making it an interesting subject to study as a representation of muslim identity in the digital space. This study aims to determine how muslim identity is represented thourgh visual content, narratives, and interactions on this account. Data was collected thourgh the documentation of ten selected posts from July to November 2025. Data analysis used Roland Barthes semiotic analysis to dissect the denotative, connotative and mythical meaning of each post, wich were then linked to Stuart Hall’s theory of representation to examine the process of meanings of each post, wich were then linked to Stuart Hall’s theory of representation to examine the process of meang representation in the media. The results of the study found of representation to examine the process of meaning representation in the media. The result of the study found three things. First, it shows that the identity of muslim women on the @atikacahyaa account is represented thourg visual performance (syar’i clothing, modest poses, and colors), which describe the velues of iffah and Marwah. Second, reflective narrative thourgh gentle and empathetic captons reinforce the character of izzah as velueable and confident muslim women, while also showing the negotiation between da’wah and digital popular culture. Third, the identity displayed on social media is supported by activities outside the digital platform, wich continue to strive to spread benefits to others. Overaal, @atikacahyaa is able to present a model of modern muslim women’s representation that is esthetic, coomunicative, and still maintains Islamic values in every post.
