Abstract

The phenomenon of moral degradation and the weakening of spiritual character among young people in the digital era has become a serious challenge for Islamic education today. Education that is more oriented toward cognitive aspects and academic achievement often neglects the moral and spiritual dimensions of learners. In this context, Imam al-Ghazali’s thoughts in his work Ayyuhal Walad offer Islamic educational values that are highly relevant to shaping the character of the z generation. This study aims to explore the Islamic educational values contained in Ayyuhal Walad by Imam al-Ghazali and analyze their relevance to the characteristics of Generation Z in the digital era. This research employs a qualitative approach with a library research design. The primary source is Ayyuhal Walad, while the secondary sources consist of books, journals, and scientific works related to Islamic education, al-Ghazali’s thoughts, and the characteristics of Generation Z. Data analysis was carried out using the content analysis method to identify and interpret the Islamic educational values contained within the text. The findings of this study indicate that: (1) The Islamic educational values in Ayyuhal Walad encompass three main aspects, namely the values of creed (aqidah) including monotheism, obedience to Allah, and avoidance of polytheism; the values of worship (ibadah) such as sincerity, discipline, and spiritual responsibility; and the values of ethics (akhlaq) including modesty, honesty, social responsibility, and respect for teachers. (2) These values have strong relevance to the character formation of Generation Z, particularly in addressing moral and spiritual challenges in a digital era marked by instant gratification and materialism. Al-Ghazali’s teachings in Ayyuhal Walad can serve as an important reference in developing Islamic education that emphasizes a balanced formation of aqidah, ibadah, and akhlaq. The implications of this research highlight the urgency of revitalizing spiritual values within modern Islamic educational systems to nurture a generation that is knowledgeable, faithful, and morally upright.
